We Never Stop Thinking About the Missouri River

If you are looking for something to mix up your western trout trip and would like to see a different face of the Missouri River, think carp. These fish will challenge your fly fishing skills like few trout ever have. Over the past few years carp fishing has started to gain respect in the angling world. This fish is extremely fun, yet difficult to catch. If you think that these fish only live in trash filled ponds, you are very mistaken. Your carp trip will take place in the same Missouri River that you were catching trout in the day before. Just in a slightly different section of the river. If you love bonefish you will definitely enjoy carp, it is surprisingly similar. It is all sight fishing, you will see the fish you catch. We throw small streamers to cruising and tailing fish in very skinny water. Then when the hatch happens these fish will pod up providing the opportunity to catch 10 to 15 pound fish on a dry fly. The carp is a very wary fish that requires stealth and long accurate casts that will test your skills. Carp trips are offered from the end of June through August. These trips are very weather dependent. If it is overcast or raining we will not be able to see the fish, which makes it very hard to catch them. If the weather is wrong the trip may be cancelled and substituted with a normal trout day on the Missouri River.
The logistics of the trip are a little different. These trips require 2 cars so we can do our own shuttle because there is no shuttle service on this section of the river. And be prepared for a long day. Other than that, everything else is exactly the same as the trout trips. Including the price of the trip, $450 per day per boat.
